Plans from Here

Gravity Sun-Bathing in the Garden

Before I talk about my plans, I have to share about the newest member of our family: Gravity. Yes, that is a weird name for a dog, but she is a rescue dog who used to be a part of the hunt. However, the owners said she was no good as a hunting Beagle because she would not kill her prey, so they decided to find her a home. She is the sweetest puppy and is just so full of love. As I am writing this, she is sitting at my feet just waiting for me to pet her.

Her first day in her new home

I have little more than a month left here in Oxford, and the time has flown by. I have seen and experienced so much from moving to another country, experiencing a new culture, growing as a pianist, and making new friends. I love England, and Oxford has a very special place in my heart. It has definitely become home for me.

As I have told several people, I applied to do a Master's degree here at Oxford University, but I was declined. I was disappointed at first, but now, I see it as a blessing. I have decided that I am going to move back to Oxford in the fall and continue my lessons with Ms. Tomlinson. This will allow me to hopefully master what she is trying to teach me both piano-wise and performance-coach-wise this past year. There are still many ways I can continue to grow under her guidance. I also have established myself here with my incredible host-family, church, and friends that God has brought me. I have found community here. I will hopefully travel and see more of England. Unfortunately because of the pandemic, all of my travel plans for the Spring were canceled. But, I am excited to see what new adventures await me in the fall.

Giving us moral support as we picnic in the garden

Because of God's provision and the generosity of so many people, all of my needs were met this past year, whether it was flights, lodging, lessons, food, etc. I am so very thankful for everyone who helped me and encouraged me this last year!

Since I am staying in Oxford longer, I am hoping to grow my piano studio, either in-person or virtually, so I can hopefully support myself. I am currently teaching several students online which I think is going rather well, and I'd like to acquire more. I am also hiring myself out again this summer once I am back in the states in order to save up for the following year.

I thank God for this incredible opportunity, for everything he is teaching me, and for the love and support so many people have shown me. He is truly a good God who gives good gifts to his children!

I have included some pictures that I have taken on my walks during lockdown below.

British thing I learned:

A British "casserole" is nothing like our casserole. My host-woman used this term when she cooked pork and vegetables and put it on top of rice.

Yes, please don't tell Jace that I have been unfaithful ;). I don't want him to be jealous. Can't wait to see you guys!

So glad to hear from you. I miss you tremendously! However, I am extremely happy to hear that your England experience has been a blessing. God has great plans for you in the year ahead. You made the local newspaper! I may need your signature now.

BTW, I will not tell Jace about Gravity. I am sure he will have a long talk with you about loving another canine once you get across the pond! Hurry back--it will be time to celebrate the 4th of July soon. Love and prayers sweet girl. HUGS!

I'm glad you found Gravity! I'll show her to my wife, Kathy. She'll love it, because she volunteers with the SPCA. Your plans sound great! I hope everything goes well this summer and then back in Oxford. Beautiful photos. Like I said before, you have a good eye for photography.
